If you’ve ever laid awake in bed trying to fall asleep to no avail, then you know that no amount of time sitting with the lights out in silence will help. Most of the time what happens during this “quiet” time is at the root of why you’re struggling to go to sleep.

When your brain is over thinking, reassessing and speaking so many negative ideas to you and you can’t seem to shut it off, there’s simply no way that counting sheep flying over a fence is going to overcome this.

First, you should see your doctor and discuss if you are suffering from a sleep disorder. Some conditions such as sleep apnea may require treatment from a professional. There are many sleep issues though that can be addressed by using hypnosis and the techniques I teach you to finally relax and stop your brain from talking so much when the rest of your body just wants to get a great full night’s rest.

Calming an Overactive Mind

Hypnosis helps by focusing your attention on the current moment, using breathing techniques and getting you into deep relaxation. Once achieved, you can begin to direct your mind and thoughts to subjects and ideas that relax you and assist with retiring for the night. Versus lying awake trying to make sense of something that happened years ago or that hasn’t happened yet.

Self-Hypnosis Techniques

With hypnosis, you’ll start to recognize when these negative thoughts are coming up in your mind and stop them by changing your internal discourse before they’ve had the chance to take you out of your relaxed state. The critical point when this typically happens is that state you’re in just as you’re starting to drift into a slumber.

Some of the things we do during hypnosis include giving direct attention to the body as it falls into this relaxed mode. Focus on the various senses and feeling the calming sleep taking over from the fingertips to the toes and up into the eyelids. The goal is to bring your attention and body into submission as you move into a sleep state.

The great thing about self-hypnosis too, which I teach all of my clients in our sessions, is that you can do this on your own, anytime the thoughts are arising. It’s not something that works only one time. That means you can take the tools and techniques with you to bed every night when it’s time to shut your eyes.
