The experience of fear
All fears have an underlying cause.
In the case of flying the fear you experience may be caused from a feeling of not being in control. Or perhaps it is related to feeling claustrophobia.
In either case when you experience fear your brain is basically alerting you to proceed carefully. In this state your senses become super sensitive. Now, this is generally very helpful when danger is really present. However, when there is no danger present and yet the fear remains this becomes the big obstacle in your life, preventing you from enjoying daily activities that many people take for granted.
And knowledge or “facts” about your situation don’t help when faced with fear.
For example, telling you that flying has become the norm these days and is actually one of the safest forms of travel doesn’t help to alleviate what you are feeling or experiencing, because phobias are “irrational” fears. All this means is that the fear you experience is not based on what is actually happening or what is actually going to happen, but on something else that triggers your response.
In a real way phobia is a conditioned or “learned” response to something that happened in the past.
